Breast cancer: risk factors

The exact causes of breast cancer remain unknown to science. Doctors often made it difficult to explain why one woman develops cancer of breast and the other - not. Medicine is well known that severe blows, bruises, or touching the breast does not cause cancer. This is not a contagious disease, they can not be «of contracting» from another person.

Studies have shown that women with certain risk factors are more exposed to the risk of breast cancer than others. Risk Factors - a feature potentially increases the possibility of cancer of the breast.

Studies have identified the following risk factors for breast cancer:

Age: the risk of cancer increases with age. The majority of patients - women over 60 years. This disease rarely occurs before menopause.

The presence of the disease in the past, breast cancer: a woman who once faced with a breast cancer, are more vulnerable to the risk of developing cancer in the other breast.

Diseases of breast cancer in the family: the risk of disease is higher in women, mother, sister or daughter who suffered from breast cancer. The risk is further increased if a family member became ill with cancer before the age of 40 years. If the experience of illness is a family of your proximity to the paternal relatives, or mother’s side, your risk is also increasing.

Certain breast changes: Some women’s breast cells under the microscope appear to be pathological. Certain types of abnormal cells (atypical hyperplasia and lobular breast cancer) increases the risk of cancer.

Gene changes: changes in some genes (eg, BRCA1, BRCA2, etc.) also increase the risk of breast cancer. The tests sometimes reveal the presence of specific gene mutations in families where women are often ill with breast cancer. Doctors sometimes suggest ways to reduce the risk of disease or to improve methods for determining the disease in women with genetic modifications. National Cancer Institute (NCI) regularly produces publications on gene testing.
